Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome

I was born without a uterus. I have been trying to find out more information on this. Is there another name for this besides primary amenorrhea?

This is called Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome. It is the most common congenital (present at birth) reason for primary amenorrhea and it means that a woman is born without a uterus or vagina. Primary amenorrhea really only describes the fact that you have never menstruated. It is a result of not having a uterus rather than a description of your actual condition. Usually women who do not develop a uterus and vagina still have normal development of other sex characteristics such as breasts and pubic hair, as well as the normal production of hormones. If you have this condition you were probably also checked for any developmental problems in your spine and rectum. If you suffer from any lower abdominal pain that comes and goes in cycles, you should be checked by a gynecologist. Some women with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome do develop a small uterus or even the beginnings of a uterus and can experience the symptoms of menstruation. You can also still be vulnerable to endometriosis even though you have no uterus. This means that the uterine lining is present outside of the uterus, which can lead to pain and other health complications.
